I spent this morning at Moore College with a close friend, sitting in on a second year doctrine lecture. I went to get a feel for the place, as Bible college is one of the options that next year presents. The thought of going to college next year is a bit scary for a few reasons. Firstly, I’m generally nervous about making any big life choices, and I don’t like change. Also, I know some lovely people who go to college, but there are others who intimidate me. On top of this, most of the advice people give me starts with the question “What do you want to do afterwards?”. This is hard, because I honestly don’t know!
So going to spend a morning sitting in on a class was a great thing to do, as it really helped me get a clearer picture of what happens at college. In the class we looked humanity – and different takes on what it means to be created in God’s image, and what our relationship is with God ‘the word’ and then other people. There was lots I didn’t understand – but that’s ok! I enjoyed the morning, and now I have an actual experience of college to base my decision making on. Please pray for Soph and I as we make decisions about next year.
Well, if I can be any help as a graduate and lecturer, please feel free to ask…
Hey Sam,
My wife and I are going through the same thing at the moment – not an easy task making these decisions.
I have prayed for you – maybe we’ll meet at Moore next year!
Daniel
Thanks michael – I might shoot you an email soon.
Daniel – thanks for the prayers. Had a quick look over your blog – looks cool – will pray for you and your wife too.
Prayed for you this morning guys.
Sam, you will need to go to college to make the most of your talents. Given that, sooner rather than later probably makes sense.
Having said that, I will be very sad if we lose you from Crossfire next year. You have a brilliant talent for this age group, and I’ve already seen the impact it’s had on my 2 boys.
Thanks Craig! Glad the boys are growing so much in crossfire. God is good!
For sure – if you do decide to move on, please give priority to raising up a set of leaders for next year!
Good advice Craig, in fact, that is the first thing we thought of before even planning Crossfire!
I hope we will not have to fully leave Crossfire next year. It’s probable we’ll still be around, though in a lesser capacity.
Thanks for your prayers. I think there’s often an assumption when you do MTS that your future is already mapped out with college and full-time ministry, but everything is depdent on the will of God, and Sam and I have tried to be deliberately open to that. I’m looking forward to seeing what He has in store in the next few years.
Sambo, the view from over here (not just us, but other’s who have heard about you or heard your sermons) is the same as Craig’s.
Moore is a good place and worth spending time at (I spent 4 years there and am still alive), in some knowing what you want to do after can help in picking a the theological college, SMBC in my humble opinion is best at preparing for overseas mission, Morling for western culture church planters, Moore for Sydney Anglican ministers and for a good academic basis but just like the other colleges it is not perfect.
My 5 cents worth of advice, go somewhere where you will be built up but also that will push your theological thought out of the comfort zone. that said i have spent time at all the colleges mentioned above and am doing some furthere stuff at St.Marks in Canberra and have been pushed in all of them.
not sure if that helps or just confuses. Will help the best way possible and pray for you

Sounds good
