I’m sorry not to have posted much of late. It’s mainly due to the fact that I haven’t had access to a computer during the daytimes of late. But here’s a bit of an update on the last little while.
I made a decision about 2 weeks ago (brought about by the fact that I had a sore back) not to take my laptop with me to college, and found it a whole lot easier to concentrate on the lectures with just my bible and a pad to take notes on. Now after 2 weeks of finding my concentration in lectures being so much better sans-laptop, I’m thinking I won’t be going back to taking notes on computer.
The best part about not having a computer clogging up your desk is the fact that you can have both your Bible and your greek New Testament open during lectures – much better for engaging with the text, even if I don’t get down quite so many notes.
Lectures have been pretty good of late. I’m really enjoying our lectures on 1 Peter for New Testament, despite the fact I’ve been pretty disappointed with our set reading. In doctrine we began looking at the atonement today – which was tops. It’s a pretty hotly contested doctrine, and it was great to spend almost half of our first lecture just surveying the landscape of the debate around the atonement.
This afternoon I went to a fascinating panel discussion on the place of social action within evangelical Christianity. Was excellent, although I still have a few questions regarding whether Christians should be more concerned to care for fellow believers in poverty before caring for the poor and sick in general. But it was a thought-provoking discussion, and I was pretty humbled and challenged about my neglect of showing love in this way.
That’s all for now. Gotta go get ready to go to a music practice tonight for a wedding Soph and I are playing at in a week or two.

No computer in lectures? No wonder you haven’t played your scrabble move!

Interesting… I much prefer paper too. I can’t think without a pen in my hand…
Jonathan Edwards wrote lots on social action (or charity) and Christian love. See this book or this paper.
