Wall Street crash

I think it’s safe to say now that the US has headed into a recession. The Dow Index has recorded its biggest daily percentage decline since the October 1987 stock market crash. President Bush’s bailout deal has been voted down. The world financial market is slowly falling in on itself. The implications for Australians have yet to be seen.

In keeping with discussion from the last post, how can we be praying for the US (and even the world) – for both the country and its churches – as we head into uncertain times?

  1. John Dekker says:

Perhaps a prayer of thankfulness – like when a drunk person passes out. It seems Americans were borrowing far more than they should have been.

God gave us hangovers for a reason.

Som financially motivated prayer points I guess…

For the country – pray that people won’t panic excessively (especially traders) so that the economy doesn’t go into more of a meltdown. Pray that during this time some people in trouble may turn to God for comfort and learn to trust in him.

For the churches – pray that people will care for those who have lost a lot during this time of turmoil. Pray that people will continue to trust in God and that he will provide for them. Pray that members will still be generous and joyful in their giving even if the purse strings are a little tight.
