On the topic of fake a*vertising, I’m working on a story at the moment for my magazine about ethics and a*vertising. It’s an interesting topic and I’m enjoying getting stuck into it. The three areas I’m focussing on are tobacco, gambling and politics.
I’m excited because this is the first story which I’ve pitched and been commissioned to write simultaneously. Admittedly, I got the idea from the movie Thank You For Smoking.
Though of course, I’ll be nothing like the journalist Katie Holmes played in the movie!
Hey I was reading the paper yesterday and read that Channel 9 had done some viral marketing on you tube for the new Underbelly pre-quel. There were questions about nine’s ethics as it contained gratuitous sex scenes, violence, nudity and drug use, but Nine didn’t own up to producing it.
Thought of you when i read it…

Soph I’d be keen so see what you come up with – I’m teaching some media and advertising units at school (english teacher) and am always on the lookout for current issues and examples.
