I’m taking part in a debate next wednesday night.
My first time since year eight. This makes me very nervous. I’m having flashbacks of palm cards, ajudicator bells and referring to the opposition’s case as “cobwebs I will now sweep away”.
I was invited by a public relations industry body to take part and I thought, why not? Then I looked at the roster of others speakers – all PR company MDs and seasoned journalists - and now feel a bit out of my league. eek. I’m sure I’ll be fine. I just need to be confident!
Anyway, I’ll be on the affirmative team, mostly likely first or second speaker, and the topic is that Journalism and PR are two sides of the same coin. Our team has quite a coherent definition and case. I think I can comfortably argue that this is true.
Anyone got any advice for a debating amateur?
Hey Soph
A joke is worth 5 minutes of argument. You want to win the people as much as the argument.
yeah, the organisers said to throw in jokes. I’m a bit worried about that. I’m not very funny!!
Hey Soph. I saw that advertised. Is it through PRIA? You’ll be great. Hope it goes well
Thanks adri. yep, that’s the one.
