I’ve been reading a fair bit of food/travel blog Not Quite Nigella lately (I know, I’m rather late to the party) and was delighted to find Cabramatta’s Vietnamese fare featured in her latest Meet My Suburb tour.
After falling in love with Vietnam during our trip a couple of months ago, I’m keen to give the suburb a visit. The drawcard? Food. Possibly my best moments in Vietnam involved eating – sitting with Sam on a beach in Hoian with cold beers and a plate piled high with freshly caught and cooked crabs; crouching over an upturned box in the Old Quarter of Hanoi, dunking fried bread-sticks into fragrant bowls of pho; feasting on pancakes (ban xeo) filled with bean sprouts and prawns while watching boats row across the Perfume River in Hue; fried Hoian won tons (like Vietnamese nachos!), crusty French bread filled with fresh herbs and salted pork, icy drinks topped with condensed milk…my mouth is watering already.
Running with a similar theme, 52 Suburbs is one person’s endeavour to photograph one suburb a week for a year (thanks Sophie for the link). The resulting photographs are amazing, spilling little secrets around Sydney.
What about your suburb? What are the gems that few people know about? If you were to give someone a tour, where would you take them?
