How to be arty without really trying.

I felt like Being Creative over the weekend, so I spent a few hours making some vintage-style greeting cards. Thanks Sophie for the brilliant idea! All you need is some coloured cardboard, scissors, glue and old picture books (I found mine at a second hand shop…more on this tomorrow). Some old wrapping paper doesn’t hurt either.

Here’s what I came up with.

Not bad, huh? And in case you were wondering, I only cut up books with spines that were falling apart. I spotted some old Beatrix Potter books for $3 each, but I couldn’t bear to rip into The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, no matter how charming the pictures.

Have you got any ‘achievable’ craft projects to share? Please do!

  1. Hooray!

Your cards are great, I love them!

I made another batch last week at Brown Owls. It’s basically my favorite thing to do…

  2. I love making my own cards, though I haven’t done so in a while. I have a bag of ribbons, wrapping paper etc for that purpose.

Once a friend & I made Christmas gift boxes from Chinese takeaway boxes by decorating them with letters & filling the boxes with Christmas goodies . That was fun & easy to do!

  3. I like them a lot! I’ve been meaning to get some old books to make coasters. And meaning to get some coasters to stick the illustrations onto. I might steal this idea too! [pinterest]

  4. Those are amazing – you’re so good at thinking of really clever ways of making them into your own new creation – and the colours are gorgeous.

    Start an etsy store? ;)
