Nice review! I’m keen to check out some of those eastern suburbs tips! … re: Vargabar – I’ll second that call. Interestingly, the few blokes who opened it up were just young and keen hacks who loved coffee and loved a good coffee shop vibe. And their hard work has paid off – they opened another shop in bondi (i think!) too.

The best advice I came across re giving birth was that 1) it’s hard work, 2) there is pain, and 3) you can do it!! A positive attitude goes a long way (I know that sounds sucky but it’s true) and it doesn’t hurt to prepare…Birth Skills is a good book to get hold of if you haven’t already. Good luck!!! Such a major life development coming your way…before too long you’ll be able to look back on all you’ve learned and see how much you’ve grown through it all

It’s just one of those things you get the hang of. Parenting, I mean. You go into pretty intensive training, so the learning curve is pretty steep. You’ll be singing twinkle twinkle before you know it. Is this a good thing? Hard to say.

I reckon you’ll both be great parents though.

However, I am fully behind Sam with his zero tolerance stance on animal suits. It really is a slippery slope. Today, tiger print all in one, tommorrow shipped off to Anne Geddes’ ~~torture chamber~~ photographic studio.

Sam’s being biblical. ‘Don’t exasperate your children’. Follow his solid leadership.

Your comments are very true – it’s interesting how two different types of blue can communicate such different things.

It was also really interesting learning about how different types of paint and colours, even brands, mix differently, so the proportions that you mix them will produce such different results. I’m getting a bit obsessed about it, so have started reading a book called “Colour” by Victoria Finlay who basically travels around the world trying to discover how certain colours like ultramarine blue and titanium white originally developed. Fascinating stuff!

Yeah, you gotta post some results for us.

The class sounds great. The excersises in tone will be invaluable. I learnt much too late how important tone is, and that you can dazzle with a bunch of pretty colours, but that if the tonal relationships between the blocks of colour aren’t there to ground it, well hello dog’s breakfast!

I’ve never really learnt about painting, but would love to. I need to go back and do all that colour wheel stuff, as I have no understanding of any of that part of it.

You’ve made me want to join a class too!

Nice work Soph, I feel the same way about photography, in that you start to notice bits of the world that you previously dismissed, and light at different times of day.
